CNC Turner (Programmer/Setter/Operator)
Job Purpose:
To produce high-quality precision components using CNC lathes by interpreting engineering drawings, programming, setting, and operating CNC turning machines to meet production requirements and customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Program, set, and operate CNC turning machines (preferably using Fanuc/Doosan Controls).
Read and interpret technical engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances.
Ensure quality standards are met through in-process checks and final inspection.
Select and set up tooling and workholding devices.
Carry out first-off and in-process inspections using measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges, etc.).
Adjust machine settings and programs to optimise performance and reduce cycle times.
Identify and report non-conformities or machine/tooling issues.
Maintain a safe and tidy working environment in line with health and safety guidelines.
Record production data and complete relevant documentation accurately.
Assist with training apprentices or less experienced team members, if required.
Key Skills and Experience Required:
Proven experience as a CNC Turner (programmer/setter/operator) in a precision engineering environment.
Strong understanding of CNC turning techniques and machining processes.
Ability to program from scratch using Featurecam/Fusion 360 and/or Conversational.
Proficiency in reading and understanding engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Familiarity with geometric tolerancing and surface finish requirements.
Competent in the use of manual measuring instruments.
Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to quality control.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
Recognised engineering apprenticeship or Level 3 NVQ / City & Guilds in Mechanical Engineering or similar, or relevant proven experience in the industry.
Experience with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles.
